Daily Briefs is now Daily Bread.
Still distributing underwear, but focusing on food insecurity.
With new leadership comes new priorities. While we will continue to work with our corporate and retail partners to distribute underwear, our efforts will now be focused on the critical need to distribute food. That has been the long time, behind-the-scenes work of our sister organization... and we mean that literally. We will be working with many of the same organizations, just bringing more food than underwear. Food insecurity in the US is at an all time high. Working with the unhoused, we know first hand that many of our neighbors are hungry. The problem is only getting worse and the real time effects of climate change are accelerating a potential agricultural crisis.
We are not trying to reinvent the wheel. There are a number of fantastic organizations that work tirelessly to source food that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to those in need. Our Daily Bread model is to provide support and volunteers to those organizations that utilize various methods to re-distribute perfectly good food.
We are out harvesting in huge fields and local backyards, gleaning surplus produce at farmer's markets, fetching unsold goods at restaurants and grocery stores and preparing meals for those in need.
Get to know our partners. They are all awesome organizations providing food for vulnerable people, keeping food waste out of landfills and limiting the gases that are emitted from rotting food out of our atmosphere... now we're cooking with wins all around!

Reducing food waste presents opportunities to:
In the U.S., 30 to 40 percent of the food supply is never eaten, wasting the resources used to produce it and creating many environmental impacts. Food waste is the single most common material landfilled and incinerated in the U.S.
More than 85 percent of greenhouse gas emissions from landfilled food waste result from activities prior to disposal, including production, transport, processing, and distribution.1 In order to reduce these emissions, we need to prevent food waste from being generated in the first place.

Ecce Quam Bonum... look it up!
At Daily Briefs, we want to distribute underwear. That's our simple goal. But as we do this work, we meet people that impress and inspire. Those that have experienced tragedy and trauma, and those that fight and advocate for their wellbeing.
Our hope is to use this space to spotlight relevant legislation, organizations and individuals that impact those hanging on to our social fabric by a thread.

At the state level, California takes the lead to allocate record spending to address the homelessness crisis - and we say, it's about time! We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates on these plans... always follow the money!

Build Back Better?? Yeah, what PATH said....
Homelessness is costly. Let's work to prevent it and spend the money on the front end.

People Assisting The Homeless (PATH) Statement on Build Back Better Stalled in Senate
California — “As one of the largest nonprofit homeless services providers in the most populous state in the nation, PATH vigorously supports increased federal investment in affordable housing and homelessness prevention. The Build Back Better Act, as passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, would constitute the biggest housing affordability and homelessness prevention bill in American history. Current complaints over the size of the package from some Senators appear to have halted the bill’s progress in the Senate, despite the immense and ever-deepening need for households in California and across the country.
We urge our elected leaders at every level to grapple with the human cost of the crisis left unaddressed by the federal government. Congressional leaders and President Biden must find a way forward on this bill, for the sake of millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Californians ringing in the new year in unaffordable homes – or shelters, tents, or sidewalks.
At the same time, the risk of Congressional failure is too real and too great for California’s State and local elected officials to rest assured. Our State budget is projected to run a historic surplus. Governor Newsom, State legislators, and leaders of our cities and counties should use that budget to prepare now to act where Congress won’t. We must commit those funds to double down on homelessness support and affordable housing production and preservation.”

After working with a number of local non-profits that valiantly serve our most vulnerable populations, we saw a simple need that generous donors often overlook... new underwear.
While we are committed to our promise to distribute underwear, in late 2022 we grew our organization by merging with Daily Bread, to focus on hunger.
We exist to provide the top items requested at homeless shelters, alleviate hunger and suffering AND to better understand the laws and decisions that impact our most vulnerable citizens.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
